When The Monster Speaks

Exhibition by sue shu, curated by Alexa Ramirez Posada

The works in this room challenge the notions of digestibility and actively confronts the viewer to face its voids, crease, and folds. Not only utilising but embracing modes of abstraction and non-figurative methods, sue shu transforms the room into a site of curiosity and transformation.

In a world where personhood is established by binaries, border states, and topography as a projection of colonial thinking, venturing into nonsense, illegibility, and distortion from an “othered” body is akin to monstrosity. Who has the right to express madness, and not face alienation?

Through forms of disfiguration and within a white cube, Shu subverts the architectural space and denounces the rigidity of institutions with lunacy and eroticism. We invite you to inhabit this space and trace through the vestiges of rejection, expulsion, and regurgitation of the white supremacist, capitalist, patriarchal, systemized world and ask:

What happens when the monster speaks ?
